Breast Surgery

Breast augmentation

In this procedure, the breasts are enlarged by surgical placement of implants behind the breasts. Incisions are made either in the armpits, just below the breast, or around the areola.

Breast implants, which are silicone shells filled with either saline (salt water) or silicone gel, are inserted either beneath the breast tissue, or below the pectoral (chest) muscle.

Breast augmentation is usually done under general anesthesia and takes 1.5 to 2 hours. A hospital stay is typically not required. Recovery time is about 1 to 2 weeks.

Breast reduction (female)

This operation is done to correct excessively large and sagging breasts.

These may give rise to symptoms such as shoulder, neck and backache, postural difficulties and skin problems. In this procedure, excess breast tissue, fat and skin are removed, and the nipple and areola are resided to an aesthetically pleasing position.

Surgical scars are hidden in the lower portion of the breasts.

Breast reduction is usually done under general anesthesia and takes approximately 3 hours. A hospital stay of 1 to 2 days is required and the recovery time ranges from 2 to 3 weeks.

Breast lift

Breast lift, also known as mastopexy is done to correct the sagging that can occur with time due to factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding and gravity.

Incisions are made in the lower part of the breast to remove excess skin, following which the nipple and areola are moved to a new, higher position.

Mastopexy can be combined with placement of breast implants to further enhance the result.

This procedure is usually done under general anesthesia and takes 1.5 to 3 hours. A hospital stay is usually not required.
