| TEETH WHITENING |
| |

Not everybody is blessed with white sparkling teeth. Discoloration of teeth may be due to aging and staining caused by cigarettes, coffee, tea or antibiotics. Discoloration of teeth can also be inherited or acquired. However, the colour of your teeth can be whitened using a whitening agent.
How white your teeth will become from teeth whitening may vary from each individual and depending on the severity of the discoloration. The dentist will give a thorough explanation and results to expect from this procedure. |
At Imperial Medical Centre, teeth whitening procedure is done using an ultra violet light. This treatment is safe and painless. A translucent bleaching gel will be applied to the teeth and a light is used to activate the crystals in the gel to absorb the energy from the light and penetrate the enamel causing the lightening effect on the teeth. The whitening effect can last up to two years depending on the amount of caffeine you take daily. This treatment usually takes approximately 1 to 1 ½ hours and only one visit is all it takes for a brighter smile. |

| TOOTH COLOURED RESTORATION |
| |
| Tooth coloured composite resin material is used for restoring decayed teeth, closing up minor gaps, correcting crooked teeth and to lighten the stains of your teeth using bonding technique. The decayed portion of the tooth is removed, a thin coat of acid will be applied to the cavity followed by a bonding agent. The dentist will then place the tooth colored filing material onto the cavity and sculpt it to form the ideal shape. An ultra violet light will then be used to harden the restoration and finally the surface will be finely polished. This treatment usually takes about one to two hours. |

| CROWN |
| |
Crowns are typically for damaged teeth due to grinding, improper bite, age and tooth decay. The dentist will make an impression of the teeth and send it to the lab to create the crowns. This usually takes about two weeks. Tooth reduction is usually required before placing the crown. Crowns can last between ten to fifteen years.
There are a few types of crowns available ie. porcelain bonded to metal and full porcelain crown. The dentist will discuss with you the right type and results to expect before the treatment. Generally, only two visits are required. |

| CERAMIC VENEERS |
| |
Ceramic Veneers are an alternative to crowns. They are very thin pieces of specially-shaped porcelain that will be glued over to your teeth. Unlike crowns, only a minimal amount of tooth reduction is required. Patients who undergone this treatment are usually those with severely discolored teeth, chipped teeth, crooked teeth, teeth with small cavities in them, uneven surfaces or an inappropriate sized tooth.
Ceramic Veneers do not stain, do not change color and can last for many years. However, if you suffer from bruxism, clenching or grinding of your teeth, veneers can be damaged. Please inform your dentist about this and a mouth guard would be given to be worn at night to protect the veneers. More than one visit is required to get the right shape and adjustment of the veneers. |

| BRIDGES |
| |
Dental bridge is basically crowns joined together. This treatment is usually for replacing missing tooth / teeth. Bridges are usually made of porcelain bonded to metal, metal or full porcelain. Bridges can last for many years depending on how committed you are to maintaining your dental health. |
